More About Me
Have a strong background in performance. Taught figure skating since I was 16yr, with a design/sewing business on side (costumes and formal wear). Produced ice show every year, theme, choreography, music, design costumes, props, write script, lay out program, direct, stage manage etc. Did Ballet for 10yrs with Jazz thrown in sporadically over the years. Rollerblade all summer, figure skate year round, spend much time training and hiking with my dogs. Some weeks I almost live at the dance studio.
Have a musical background (piano), my four kids play instruments proficiently (violin, trumpet, sax, piano)...by the time the 3rd one got finished Suzuki Violin Book One, I could play the whole book by osmosis :)
Favourite area of skating was dance, have my Gold medal. Always wanted to compete but never had a partner. Started dancing to Big Band with my Dad. Finally got around to taking up Ballroom...definitely a love affair...if I could dance 7 days a week I would be a happy girl. Have an understanding of Argentine Tango but not much practice time. West Coast Swing every week, which is getting quite comfortable. New adventure is Lindy. Love to Salsa! It should really be illegal to have this much fun!
I compete Pro/Am Silver in Standard and Smooth. Latin is Bronze level as it's a more challenging genre, but I love it. Weekly private lessons centre around International & Smooth syllabus. Weekly group lessons are advanced technique. Toronto is utilized for lessons & workshops. As a variety of Master coaches pass through my studio frequently I take advantage of private lesson time.
I am looking for an amateur partner to do competition. I am very goal orientated, study details to refine technique & am a hard worker. A sense of humour is important to me as it can get you over rough patches...besides when you trip over each other or have to repeat something multiple times because one is having a dense moment...all you can do is laugh and start over :) I believe that 'perfect practice makes perfect performance'. This delightful quote from a master skating coach I admire.
Dancing with different partners makes us better dancers, keeps us sharp, pushes us to be better lead/follow. However, I believe consistent practice with one partner let's you concentrate on specifics as reading your partner becomes auto-pilot so you can work on new steps, choreography & performance. A group of us dance almost every weekend. Last dance always comes to soon...lol
I'm Looking For
Someone light hearted with a sense of humour who wants to go dancing anytime or work towards Amateur competition. I follow well, am a dynamic partner, light on my feet and my current lesson schedule moves me forward constantly. The abundance of social dance clubs/studios makes it easy to find one central for both of us. So who wants to Trip the Light Fantastic!
