More About Me
I love to dance. It is something I have always been passionate about. I started dance about 7 years ago when I began teaching science at a small high school. My students encouraged me to sponsor their ballroom dance team as a faculty adviser. Watching them perform reminded me of how much I missed dancing and how much it defined me. Over the past 5 years I've competed novice and pre-championship international latin (and a little Novice WCS) with my previous amateur partner. I have danced WCS and Salsa socially and have done some beginning level instruction in WCS, Salsa, NC2S, and international latin. I don't see myself as a pro, but have seemed to fall into the instructor role in the communities I have lived in because the need is there (and likely because as a high school classroom teacher it is relatively natural for me to share what I know in an accessible way that promotes fun and inclusion).
Instruction, however, is not my goal. I really want to continue my OWN learning and part of that journey includes regular instruction from top rated pros and competition. At this time, I'm really interested in developing connection and playing with expression through connection. I need a partner to help me in this growth. I am willing to do this in multiple styles, however, I would expect my partner to reciprocate. For example, if your focus is Salsa, I'm happy to train and compete with you, and will dedicate focus and energy towards your passions. But, it is essential that we spend equal time on a dance in my area of specialty (either latin or WCS). I think breadth of instruction and training makes all dancers better. The longer I dance the more I see the potential to learn and borrow from different styles, so cross training is a big thing for me. I work out several times per week to stay cardio-vascularly fit, am studying dance kinesiology, and I am training in acroyoga.
If I am to reach my goals I'm going to need to find a partner who is equally committed to a regular practice and training schedule. I'm prepared to invest in lessons, travel, and competitions. I prefer to train weekends and weekdays during the early evening. Sorry, my work has me up early in the mornings so evenings after 8 don't work for me. I'm Looking For
I'm looking for a male partner with similar work ethic who wants to train and/or compete in the International Latin or WCS styles of dance. I am open to the possibility of doing American Smooth, Rhythm or Standard if that is your preference. Personality and work ethic means more than an absolute match in training. Ideally, you should feel as though there is always something new to learn and not be daunted by challenges. I want someone who LOVES dancing and is looking to take the next steps towards being an amazing dancer in their field. I need a lead who is committed to learning and growing in the partnership. I recognize that being a part of a competitive partnership is much like being in a real relationship. I have been a part of a competitive partnership and dance company before, I can be a good partner to you, however, I am in this for the dancing, nothing more.
