More About Me
I dance to traditional country/western music (70’s, 80’s and 90’s)—not today’s contemporary C/W dancing. Of course, I enjoy good ‘ole rock ‘n roll music and dancing as well. Plus, you can throw-in big band, swing, easy-listening and some disco. Enjoy dancing whether it's "Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound", "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime" or "In the Mood"! I don’t know anything about categorizing music or dance steps; I just know whether I “like” it or not. Similarly, I know nothing about the website’s proficiency rating system. I selected a rating of “8” before I realized that the rating system is probably based on a standard ballroom scale. I neither ballroom dance nor care to learn; I’m quite content with my proficiency as a C/W dancer; but, I would like to try to Shag since many of my C/W steps are similar. I have never had dance lessons unless you want to count my secretary’s instructions. In fact, I never would have gotten in to dancing if my secretary had not insisted that our Department have happy hour at the new, fancy upscale C/W bar down the street from our bank, back in John Travolta’s days of “Urban Cowboy”. I'm Looking For
I dance a variety of steps with several variations to each. I also have a signature dance step where I double-time (even to the fastest songs) so that I am moving twice as fast as anyone on the floor. Not unlike Ginger Rogers, I mostly dance backwards in [riding] heels! I’ve been invited to compete and join “show teams” (I guess that is what you call them) but I’m content competing against myself. To win in competition, you must dance like instructors teach and since instructors judge dance competitions, I wouldn't have a chance--I don't dance like a studio-robot. I don't practice or chroegraph steps or create routines (except in my mind); I just dance. And, of course, dancing gets harder as time goes on and I don't get to do it as often as I would like. Once a drunk cowboy came up to me as I was exiting the dance floor at a bar in West Texas, took off his cowboy hat, fanned my boots as though he was cooling them off and stated, “I don’t know what the hell you're doin'; but, I sure hope it catches on!” That's all the recognition I ever needed! I have been featured in a Nashville promotional tape for a group and appeared on a national TV program…but not by choice. You’re never any better than your partner so I should mention that I had a great English dance partner that was once a Go-Go dancer on a London TV show. We danced six night a week for years. Seek dance partner to develop into a good friendship so we can dance our way across the Atlantic on the largest dance floor at sea aboard Queen Mary 2. I can’t ballroom, but I sure can waltz!
