More About Me
While dancing, I'm agile and coordinated; a cautious lead as I'm learning, and a good lead with what I know ("if you ain't sellin it, she ain't buyin it"... not my line, but you'll get brownie points for guessin which of my 'Lindy Heroes' always says that when teaching =). I did country-western for about 7 years (mostly swing, some two-step/waltz, not a big line dance kinda guy, filled in occasionally for classes when instructors went out of town). I've been doing Lindy (plus Charleston, Balboa, and east-coast) for about 4 years now and loving it. I love the exuberance of Lindy and have a great deal of fun dancing. But, I'm also very competitive with myself... in other words, I know I can be better at it than I am now, but I'm not improving as fast as I'd like only getting out dancing on Friday nights. I've also been doing a little bit of west-coast for the last 4 or 5 months, and I'm interested in improving with it as well. I haven't done much competing with dance, some Jack n Jill contests around the midwest, and I've only ever done 1 dance performance, 2 if you count the Mexican hat dance some of us from my Spanish class did in 7th grade...? =), but I would like to get to the point where I feel confident to do so. I've played competitive sports most of my life (soccer, football, volleyball, basketball, baseball) and if you're looking for competition, I can handle the pressure. What I need to work on? Learning new moves... I learn quickly when I have someone to 'experiment' with, but it's a struggle trying to learn something in my head and then bring it about on a social dance floor. Putting moves through different combinations (sometimes it's easy to get in the habit of always following 'this' with 'that'). Learn to follow. Two reasons... 1) I'm not certain I 'showcase' the follow well enough (Job 1 is to make her look good right?)... and 2) I think it would be a very cool mixup for a routine to do a lead change in the middle of it... well, for Lindy anyway. Where would I like to see dance take me? Socially, I hope to still be out on the floor when I'm 80. Competitively, with a consistent partner, I'm game for any of it. And honestly, I would love to teach swing (or any other dance I learn)... it builds confidence in yourself and trust in others, entices creativity and improvisation, and is perhaps the most incredibly fun 'hobby' one could hope for!

I'm Looking For
What I'm really looking for could be 1 of 2 mindsets: a woman who'd like to learn Lindy, Charleston, and Balboa (I love the way those dances are mix-n-match'able!) and is willing to put some time into a fun hobby; or, one who is hell-bent on performing/competing and willing to take 'two steps back' so this jazz-swinging noob can take a few steps forward. Someone who's not afraid of a few aerials (slim/athletic build) or maybe just keepin our feet on the ground and gettin some good style flowin. (If you're close and interested, but are looking for a different dance, maybe we can haggle it out and do a bit of both kinds... =)
