More About Me
SUMMARY: GENERAL strategy I want to do right now (I've found that this strategy minimizes costs, while maximizing enjoyment): 1.) For the FOUNDATION aspect of dancing (the TECHNIQUE and STEPS categories below): Rent studio time together, and use DanceVision DVDs (and Irish dancing DVDs, for me, too) for lots of fun PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. 2.) For the APPLICATION aspect of dancing (the SPONTANEITY category below): Keep going to live music and dance events where at some points I can't contain myself with the music, and I dance SPONTANEOUSLY, both solo and with a partner. Where I'm at now with dancing, after dancing both partner and solo on and off for about 10 years: My ENJOYMENT in dancing seems to depend on 3 categories: TECHNIQUE, STEPS, and SPONTANEITY. For the categories of TECHNIQUE and STEPS, I've had plenty of formal instruction and have helped give formal instruction as an assistant teacher myself. I'm familiar with many standard forms for both TECHNIQUE and STEPS in about 10 or even more partner (Ballroom) dances over the years. I've never actually counted, as teaching studios and also a dance weekend I went to one time tend to cover a huge breadth of dances. However, I've ended up recently focusing on the category of SPONTANEITY. To me, the category of SPONTANEITY seems to be a bit lacking in both teaching studio and social dance scenes. Therefore, I've been taking matters into my own hands, and being spontaneous myself. At Swing social events, I do spontaneous solo dancing along the sidelines, and then merge with a partner who would like to do the same thing as both partners and solo. It's a blast - we end up having so much fun! When I'm doing this, a significant PARADIGM SHIFT that I'm doing is dancing to the general movement of the music, including the melody. I'm doing this, as opposed to doing an embedded drumbeat type of footwork to the music that the standard forms seem to usually take, and that can be constraining when my partner and I want to just let the music sweep us away. I've been experimenting with allowing the music to sweep us away, and we're able to enjoy a much more free moving Fred Astaire-like dance that's lots of fun! To do this, I’m looking for: SPONTANEITY and AGILITY. (Keep in mind that to be well-matched, my level of agility is kind of off the charts, so if you're NOT into AGILITY, we probably wouldn't be well-matched in the long-run. There - I've given my disclaimer - HA HA!)

I'm Looking For
After dancing on and off for 10 yrs. all over the U.S. - at teaching studios, ongoing social dance scenes, performances, and assisting with lessons - I’m interested in optimizing our ENJOYMENT. While I’ve had some fun in these typical dance scenes, they’ve also been frustrating to me in a lot of ways. So now I have the goals below; I think for anyone who wants to join in with my ideas below, we can have EVEN MORE fun! 1.) I would rather have fun dancing SPONTANEOUSLY – and PRACTICING in order to support spontaneous dancing - rather than rigidly COMPETING. (But my ideas here can still help YOU competing, as well as adding FUN!) 2.) I would rather use DanceVision DVDs and RENT MY OWN STUDIO TIME to learn and PRACTICE (MUCH cheaper!), rather than pay teaching studios exorbitant fees for a very low practice to teaching ratio. 3.) I would rather practice and evolve with ONE PARTNER at a time, rather than dancing with MANY WOMEN and just ONE SONG with each woman. 4.) I would rather concentrate on just A COUPLE DANCES, rather than 5 to 10. The dances I’ve been focusing on are SWING and WALTZ. I know many ladies like Latin dances, but that music and type of dance formation don’t really resonate with me. SORRY! BUT if you want to be swept off your feet and have a bunch of spontaneous silly fun at the same time by someone like Fred Astaire, then I’m your man! 5.) I would rather focus on TECHNIQUE, rather than COUNTLESS SLOPPILY DONE STEPS. 6.) I would rather attend LIVE EVENTS and experiment with ALL-OUT SPONTANEITY, rather than be constrained to the standard forms of teaching studios. 7.) For some songs that really SPEAK TO ME, I would like to experiment using spontaneous dancing for some repeatable CHOREOGRAPHY, with PERFORMANCE POSSIBILITY (this is different from trying to fit standard forms into a song – that can be laborious to me). 8.) From Training for a long time (as an IT Trainer), I'm very good at providing "Lead-In" information, so I can possibly provide some very good facilitation for any women or couples getting an INITIAL ORIENTATION into partner dancing. I could be a good adjunct to a larger plan of "getting started" in partner dancing, ESPECIALLY in providing valuable insight into THE MAN'S PART, and making the system of two people dancing together work as a whole. JUST ASK ME ABOUT IT. ONE FINAL NOTE: Please use personalized writing – "Cards" are HARD TO REPLY TO, since they have no personalized content – Thank You!
