More About Me
I have recently started learning to lead, so although I dance mostly as a follower, I am mainly here to seek out a follower with whom to practice as a leader. Learning to lead is fun, and I believe it has the added benefit of making me a better follower. Since I am still a "beginner" as a leader, I would be a good partner for a a beginner lady - or for a man who wants to learn to follow. But unlike most beginner dancers, I already have a solid frame, a firm-yet-elastic connection, lightness on my feet, a precise grasp of musical timing, and proficiency in basic technique.
Dances I am best at leading are: American Smooth waltz, foxtrot, and Viennese waltz; International Latin paso doble; and social dances merengue and polka. But I would like to learn to lead other dances. If we practice together for a bit and find that we are having fun, get along, and learn well together, we could even try performing in a showcase. I have already performed in one showcase as a leader, dancing paso doble with a female friend, and we had a blast.
Regarding my proficiency and experience levels: The largest percentage of my training is in International Standard (as a follower - at open gold level in waltz and foxtrot, and at gold level in the rest), but I am familiar with all styles of ballroom dance: standard, latin, rhythm, smooth, as well as various styles of swing and other social dances. If you want to me to estimate my proficiency level (as a leader or as a follower) for a particular dance, just ask - or better yet - meet me on the social dance floor. I go out social dancing 3-4 times per month, so it's not hard to meet up with me in a social dance setting.
I'm Looking For
I'm mainly here to seek a follower with whom I can practice as a leader. This has been prety well addressed in "More about me" above, but I'll just add: It is far more important to me that a partner be reliable, courteous, and conscientious, than that they be advanced and able to do fancy moves. I am a person who says please and thank you, who apologizes if we bump into other dancers, who can be counted on to do everything in my power to show up when I say I will show up, and who follows the basic guidelines of social (and social dance) etiquette. I am self-reliant and avoid drama. I get along well with people who do the same.
