More About Me
I'm a full time CPA. I used to be a full time teacher and competitor, American smooth and rhythm and International Standard and Latin as a kid. I started International as a kid in the mid-80's, taught and competed in American style in the 90's. While living in Miami in 00 and 10's I continued to dance and practice with other pro-partners. My favorite "traditional" ballroom is International Standard. Nothing like a slow foxtrot. I love practicing Standard and working on impeccable technique.
However, I am obsessed with Hustle, Salsa, Arg Tang, West Coast Swing...any dance that has a deep Jack&Jill/Improv aspect to its scene. I really like that these dances are still evolving are different from region to region. I respect that these "other" dances are based more on improvisation and deep lead/follow communication.
Hustle/Salsa in particular produces this Zen/in-the-moment/out-of-body state for me, if that makes sense. Due to my cosmic connection to hustle sharing hustle to the world by performance and workshops is the most satisfying use of partner dance. I eventually want to teach hustle workshops with a serious hustle partner. Working on some of the other dances would be 'just for fun' and self growth. With the hustle I want to take it on "the road".
I'm Looking For
In short. I want a hustle partner. For practice, showing off out, doing shows, including working on routines with motion light projections that my boyfriend does professionally and perform those projection mapped routines at festivals.
I would also like to work on Salsa, West Coast Swing and Argentine Tango. If I had all the time in the world I would be wanting to mix in some slow foxtrot and quickstep but hustle if I have to chose a focus, it is hustle hands down. Is there a hustle scene in Los Angeles? I moved back here from Miami where there is a bit of a network of hustle addicts who would get together and do the IHDA event and practice and go out improving.
I work "normal hours" so if by some chance of luck you live near the 90027 zip code so regular practice sessions would fit in to our schedules with ease.
My immediate aim is just getting in regular studio practice time. Haven't danced at a serious level for 3 years and need a few months to loosen back up and get my speed chops back. But once "chops are back" and we have gelled as a dance partnership, then get to the serious business of improving out, holding workshops, and apparently building a vibrant hustle scene.
To me, social dancing is a part of practice because it enhances good lead/follow communication and improvisation. So, studio practice time and nightclub dancing is important.But first I just want to practice, practice, practice to gel and get dance partnership going.
Also, I'd like to go to Argentine Tango workshops with a partner and not switch so we can go back to the studio and practice that. My intentions for ArgTang is simply to work on it for the love of it.
I love all ballroom. Foxtrot and Quickstep are also favorites but to incorporate partner dancing back into my life I need to pick and chose what I will focus on.
Hustle/Salsa/WCS are highest loves that I MUST do.
I can help you improve and want a partner to push me to improve.
I am 5'3". Height isn't a deal breaker but anyone between 5' and 5'10 is ideal.
