More About Me
Retired intel analyst, piano player, enjoys social dance scene in metro D.C. area. Most recently into shag, slow blues, West Coast, swing but almost exclusively in live music venues. I am not fussy, not into showing off, but expect more than beginner level. I like the spontaneous, interpretative nature of these dances; matching the dance line to the musical line. Disappointed in the last 10+ years of West Coast evolving into a highly competition driven stage-craft dominated by rap and hip-hop with a high percentage of abysmal (or worse) lyrics; What happened to the Blues? What happened to SOCIAL West Coast? Open to "practice" on routines, new moves, being coached (style/technique), and style blending (e.g., blues + tango). I can teach but have no strong desire to do so now. No lifts, no aerials! Background is C&W, Lindy, waltz, touch of ballroom and Latin evolved to more smooth dance styles. Sample of favorite songs: Avalon, Sea Cruise, Statesboro Blues, Gonna Move Across the River, (and stuff from Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B.King, Sam Cooke, Gary Bass, Bill Pinkney and the Drifters, etc)
I'm Looking For
Looking for strong connection and effortless dance magic (you will know what I mean). You have to feel the music - there is no substitute! Sociable, quick witted, good conversationalist, musical background helpful. Mobility and fluidity are most important. Pop-quiz: "Can you spin?" No drama queens, passive aggressive or possessive types, etc. "Can you play with the other children?" (getting to the point!)
