I’ve been dancing socially since high school, and have gone through waves of greater and lesser participation in my life. I’m interested in dancing more frequently now that I have a little more time on my hands, but that still would only be once a week for now. I’m most proficient at contra, with some classes and social experience in ballroom, swing, tango, and salsa.

Latin style dancing

I'm an amaterur dancer, who would like a partner to learn , improve, and practice with. I'm open to the possibility of performing and competing.

Extensive foundation in ballroom dance (training, performance, and competition). Former member of BYU Ballroom Team 1985-1989 (performance tours through Asia, US, and Europe including Blackpool and World Latin Formation Championships - 1989). Inrntl Standard training with Stephen & Elizabeth Cullip ('89-'94) and Kathryn Schaffer ('00-'03). Amateur Championship-level Standard competitions through 2003. I started training again around 2018 and competed in the 2023 NDCA U.S. National Championships at the Sr. III level placing 3rd in Latin, 5th in Ballroom, and #1 in 10-Dance. Social dancing since then. I also work out and stay in decent shape.

I am athletic, very committed, rhythmical, hard-working, and non-smoking. I weigh in at 160lbs, 5ft 7in (170cm). I am a passionate Latin American competition dancer. In my last 18 months in England I trained with Mark Lunn (London) and Andrzej Mialkowski (Northampton). Since moving to Toronto, I have trained at Ol-Si dance sport with Oleg Yedlin, Valentin Kolesnikov, and Antoaneta Popova, and more recently with Milena Koraleva, as my pro partner.

I started competing in LA in March 08 and competed successfully during most of 2008/9 and were easily within the Top 12 in the Senior Latin English chart. During 2010 I took a break from competitions and eased my way back in during late October for a few comps before the British National. In January 2011 I won the Senior Pre-Am Latin (Champions of Tomorrow) at Blackpool, and in June 2011, Stars of The Future, confirming that I was the top Senior Pre Champ in the UK, and making the quarter finals of the British National and Top 60 in the British Open, and the final of the British National in 2012 before retiring from competitions.

Besides all that, I am a keen social dancer and frequent the usual places from time to time. Happy to work with a professional or amateur, and happy to perform/demonstrate and possibly compete at Pre-Champ/Champ level.

My profile states 3 years experience. THAT experience is continuous. I have been dancing off and on since the Saturday Night Fever days including a period of continuous dancing between the mid 80s and the mid 90s.

It took me a while to discover the greet function. Now that I know about greets, I've sent several greets to women who appear to be 'close enough' to events I can attend. Long story short, I've always enjoyed going out to clubs—and I still do. The difference is that I used to be the guy standing on the sidelines, watching everyone else dance and have an amazing time. My passion for the Argentine Tango, led me to study in Buenos Aires and continues to inspire my travels. A foundation in theater, ballet and jazz with over 20 years of dance experience, I was recently invited to join a premiere performance dance company. Additionally, I am an instructional assistant and event co-host.

I'm looking for a dance partner who wants to practice with purpose. Not someone interested in spending most of the session chatting or casually running through routines a few times. I mean the kind of person who understands that real progress comes from repeating the same eight-count until it finally feels natural, clean, and effortless.

Like most dancers, I was knocked out of the dance world for two years. I recently got back into it and was delightfully pleased that I didn't lose any ground. Maybe a wee rusty in a few styles, but I'm working out the kinks. My three favorite dance styles are still WCS, NC2, and Argentine Tango, which I can integregate into a fusion and delectably paint the floor. During the pandemic, I substituted dance with yoga. My balancing skills have improved and I'm ready to get it going with a special partner.

I have always wanted to learn several different types of dancing. My partners have never been interesred. If you would like to learn with me and we could be amateur partners together, great! Professional hard worker who has just found West Coast Swing. Country Western is also fun. Favorite music is blues, CW and southern rock like ZZ tops and Doobie Brothers.

A hopeless outdoorsy romantic who unwittingly fell in love with Contra dancing 18yrs ago (still my favorite dance).

I also love 14 other ballroom & swing dances--& have been a dance class junkie the last 12yrs (mostly West Coast Swing). I usually take 1-2 group dance lessons 4 nites/wk--followed by 1-3hrs of social dancing. Plus one private lesson with champion instructor the last few months.

Also take lots of classes at 3-5 WCS conventions per yr, plus 5-7 Contra festivals, & one Country wkend. Dance wkends are usually my favorite times of the year. Almost forgot: it's great fun dancing to live music at Blues clubs & other venues 1-3x/month.

Other interests: bicycling (tandem, mtn, road, touring), hiking, traveling, musical & dance performances, movies, plus public TV/radio. Am a politically liberal Unitarian who is very respectful of the views of others.

I have a basic grounding in ballroom and Latin and used to compete on the university dance circuit in the Novice category a few years back (predominantly in waltz, quickstep, cha cha, rumba, and jive). I have two years of experience and am looking to get back into dance. I'd love to find a partner to practice with a few times a week, mostly for fun rather than competitions (although I'm not averse to competing if the opportunity presents). I'd be happy to sign up to classes and then practice together outside of them.

I also dance crossbody on1 salsa, and would also be interested in finding a partner to regularly practice salsa.
