As well, I especially enjoy a variety of outdoor adventures .... kayaking (have my own); hiking, walking, x-country skiing and snowshoeing. Indoors can be fun too ... a glass of wine... cooking for 2 or for friends; watching a movie, yoga.

Hello, thanks for stopping by... I have been involved with dance on and off since childhood with ethnic dancing, ballroom in college, disco era and intermittent for the last 10 years. This information didn't fit into the initial profile form. I started taking individual lessons in the last few weeks and I'm having fun dancing again and meeting dancers in the area. Although I'm primarily interested in social dancing, I could be open to performing as I have in the past.

I have several advanced psychology degrees and feel humble and grateful for my career with helping others help themselves. I respect the diversity of people, am neither far left or right, served in the military and value volunteerism. Don't do alcohol/drugs and eat healthy but also like popcorn & nearly anything with sugar!

My background is in classical ballet, which I danced for 18 years. I performed with NJ Ballet company and a pre-professional academy for a few years. This last year I started ballroom dancing private lessons and fell in love with it! I hope to continue learning all the various styles of ballroom until I find my favorite. So far I am enjoying American Rhythm, and started some Smooth. My goal is to compete/perform, and have fun along the way!

Experienced ballroom and Latin dancer. Attending improvers class. Also attend tea dances run by ballroom blitz at Heswall Hall Liverpool Town hall Crosby and west Kirby Blackpool tower ballroom a few times a year. Will dance anywhere!

Really keen to learn, came to ballroom late which is a big regret now I have discovered it. Should have listened to my mother!. Have ISTD Gold in Quickstep, Waltz, Foxtrot and Tango. Did not intend to do medals but just love the steps you do not see in social settings. Enjoy sequence and would like to do more, it is all about finding that elusive partner! Like ceroc too.

I am a free-spirit, and teach this concept by working as a holistic consultant. I am creative and dance for me is an expression of joy, trust and cooperation. I dance twice a week here on Vancouver Island - in Nanaimo, Courtenay and Parksville. People say they love watching me because I sometimes create dancing on the street, and I conclude that I am sharing my inner joy with everyone who wants to watch or join in. I also hula hoop at the beach and in the forest.

My favourite dance is the Viennese Waltz, perhaps because I am from Europe and the dance is in my blood. I took lessons from a great Latin dance teacher in Kelowna, so I have become an above-average level Latin dancer, and could enter a competition, though I would prefer to perform as a way of showing how exhilarating dance can be.

To be perfectly honest, if I had a dance partner who was out of ego while dancing the standards, I would be in Heaven. I dance the Foxtrot and Quick Step just once every two weeks so I'd like to take improver lessons for these two, with someone who also enjoys the music and the flow. Argentine Tango is in vogue here so I take lessons. I haven't been able to dance country with a partner since I left Kelowna in 2012 - I miss it! If you are a country dancer, please contact me.

I can work anywhere in the world and have no dependents in any country. Dance has brought me great happiness so I would go somewhere open-minded where I could socialise and incorporate my hobby.

SUMMARY:

GENERAL strategy I want to do right now (I've found that this strategy minimizes costs, while maximizing enjoyment):

1.) For the FOUNDATION aspect of dancing (the TECHNIQUE and STEPS categories below):

Rent studio time together, and use DanceVision DVDs (and Irish dancing DVDs, for me, too) for lots of fun PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.

2.) For the APPLICATION aspect of dancing (the SPONTANEITY category below):

Keep going to live music and dance events where at some points I can't contain myself with the music, and I dance SPONTANEOUSLY, both solo and with a partner.

Where I'm at now with dancing, after dancing both partner and solo on and off for about 10 years:

My ENJOYMENT in dancing seems to depend on 3 categories: TECHNIQUE, STEPS, and SPONTANEITY.

For the categories of TECHNIQUE and STEPS, I've had plenty of formal instruction and have helped give formal instruction as an assistant teacher myself. I'm familiar with many standard forms for both TECHNIQUE and STEPS in about 10 or even more partner (Ballroom) dances over the years. I've never actually counted, as teaching studios and also a dance weekend I went to one time tend to cover a huge breadth of dances.

However, I've ended up recently focusing on the category of SPONTANEITY. To me, the category of SPONTANEITY seems to be a bit lacking in both teaching studio and social dance scenes. Therefore, I've been taking matters into my own hands, and being spontaneous myself. At Swing social events, I do spontaneous solo dancing along the sidelines, and then merge with a partner who would like to do the same thing as both partners and solo. It's a blast - we end up having so much fun!

When I'm doing this, a significant PARADIGM SHIFT that I'm doing is dancing to the general movement of the music, including the melody. I'm doing this, as opposed to doing an embedded drumbeat type of footwork to the music that the standard forms seem to usually take, and that can be constraining when my partner and I want to just let the music sweep us away. I've been experimenting with allowing the music to sweep us away, and we're able to enjoy a much more free moving Fred Astaire-like dance that's lots of fun!

To do this, I’m looking for: SPONTANEITY and AGILITY.

(Keep in mind that to be well-matched, my level of agility is kind of off the charts, so if you're NOT into AGILITY, we probably wouldn't be well-matched in the long-run. There - I've given my disclaimer - HA HA!)

I have always been interested in ballroom and latin dancing. I tried some lessons on and off over 40 years but never got going. Now I am keen to stop procrastinating and learn and practise to a level where I can start to compete.
